Consent is So Frat

Making consent and healthy relationships part of what it means to be a fraternity brother or sorority sister.

So Frat Friday – October 24, 2014

It’s finally Friday, and you know what that means. Classes are over, it’s time for crazy parties, football games, and a whole lotta consent. To get you guys pumped up each weekend and in the promoting consent kind of mood, we’re starting up So Frat Fridays, where we’ll post the awesome things fraternities and sororities are doing to promote consent. If your chapter or Greek Life community has done something to promote consent or help to prevent sexual violence on campus, or if you just see something cool someone else has done, send it to us! You can email us at fratconsent@gmail.com or Tweet at us! Now here’s this week’s So Frat Friday:

Old Dominion University – Phi Kappa Tau

At Old Dominion University, Phi Kappa Tau has paired with the ODU Women’s Center to take a stand against sexual violence and to help prevent it in their organization and events. They also have their own party guidelines to help prevent sexual violence, according to President Luke Glenn.

“We don’t have any rooms for people to go and do anything in the house, so they would have to leave the house if they were going to try and do anything like this. We have two sober people at the doors at all times so they are observing who is leaving and who’s coming. We also do not let anyone get in a car when they leave our parties. They will get into a car that is manned by one of our designated drivers. If we see someone we don’t recognize, or a friend of a brother taking a girl who looks intoxicated at all we take active measures to break that situation. We try to pull the parties apart in the least awkward way possible.”

These kind of guidelines, as well as partnerships with campus organizations already working on sexual violence prevention, are really important to make your chapter an ally in preventing sexual violence. Nice job Phi Kappa Tau.

It’s On Us Videos

It’s been great to see chapters and national organizations take the It’s On Us pledge by changing the logo to the profile picture and writing a statement. We’re excited to see organizations and communities take it a step further, making It’s On Us videos. Here are some of the cool ones we’ve seen recently.
